Our 2023 MHS XC Seniors went out with a bang. All five set new home course Personal Records in their final home meet of their career. Way to step up! While we are not done with the season, we took some time today to celebrate this year's seniors. They have all left their mark. "Frozen Monkey" 🧊🐵 completed. ✔Frozen Head State Park, Barkley Challenge Loop Saturday (22 miles, 7,000 feet) ✔Flying Monkey Marathon Sunday (26.2 miles, 3,600 feet). Who cannot be excited about spending a weekend in Tennessee running 48 mile with 10,600 feet of vertical gain/loss in two legendary locations with the closest of friends. It is good for the soul; questionable for the legs. Started today's Flying Monkey Marathon feeling surprisingly loose after yesterday. Stayed with @daviddye1 for 18 miles, before deciding that I wanted to finish this in the AM...and David in the PM. It required more aggressive running. A strong final 10k did the job. 4:21:59, which after yesterday's adventure, definitely feels good emotionally, but my legs are trashed! #frozenmonkey #barkleychallengeloop #flyingmonkeymarathon #leap_coaching #leapcoaching

Our Montville Wolves Track & Field team was well represented at this year's CIAC State Open Championships. In their final competition of the season, these four delivered peak performances against the best T&F athletes in Connecticut. I am tearing up as I write this. "It takes a village to raise a child'. The phrase comes to mind as I think about completing this year's Grand Slam of Ultrarunning. 𝙄 did not accomplish this. 𝙒𝙀 did. Four hundred mile races in a summer took a small army of supporters. No. They were more than that. They were 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨 in me. The last race of the 2022 Grand Slam of UltraRunning starts at 5AM CST (-2hr EST). This will be my second Wasatch Front 100. It is a spectacularly beautiful mountain course east of Salt Lake City. Race tracking will be available for the race start at https://wasatch100.com/ I hope they have my bed and spa ready for me this time at Brighton Aid Station (Mile 69).

I needed a week to realize what I did and reflect back on it. It was probably the hardest thing I every did and without some help I wouldn’t be able to do so thank you for all the training plans and advice from leap_coaching, hope one day we can run together. Thank you for not letting me give up in the lowest moment b_bridgeman and stevespeirs it was a great lesson that there is a sunshine after the rain. And thanks to all who puts up with my hobby.

We haven't been posting enough about our runners completing major accomplishments. Here is one we are super proud of. A few months ago @wrightkinzie apprpached us to help him tackle his first 100 miler at @burningriver100 . A few weeks before the race, after several successful super long training runs, he elevated the goal to a sub 24hr. Race weekend was upon us and this morning we received a text from him that resulted in immediate cheers. "23:39!" More than just cool looking 😎, sunglasses provide important protection. Two years ago, during a routine eye exam, the ophthalmologist noticed a spot in my sclera (white portion of the eye). His first question was "How often do I run with sunglasses"? I rarely wore them. The spot was the direct result of excessive sun exposure and could grow if I didn't change course. As of now, it isn't impacting my vision, but it could if I don't protect my eyes. Get some sunglasses and look cool on those sunny days.

High School soccer season starts in less than a month. The local team's early season assement follows the US Coast Guard Academy fitness test, which includes max push-ups. The LEAP-Coaching Summer Strength program includes lots push-ups/pecs development. For push-up variety, we use the Power Press Complete Pushup Training System. We typically end the season with a partner/team competition. How many push-ups can a tag team of two complete in two minutes - no repeating a position. Winning team advances. #leap_coaching #strengthtraining #offseasontraining #soccertraining #highschoolathlete #strengthandconditioning

Toenails are not forever. During my 2017 #grandslamofultrarunning pursuit, the question wasn't if I would lose a toenail, but rather how many. Only two survived that journey of four 100 mile races in one summer. We wondered how many toenails would make it this Slam cycle.
